Corn: +4 ¾ to -1 ¼
The corn market had a choppy session that saw it trade both sides of unchanged before ending mixed. The July contract gained nearly a nickel on the day after trading in a 20-cent range. December futures were off just over a penny but finished well above the early low. Corn spent much of the day stuck between a lower soybean trade and a rallying wheat market. Concerns remain on the Ukrainian crop as they would normally begin seeding the crop in 4-6 weeks. Yesterday’s weekly export inspection report was disappointing with a drop in weekly shipments from the week prior.
Soybeans: -11 to -14
Soybeans spent much of the session lower before finishing with a moderate loss. July soybean lost 11 cents on the day after trading nearly 30 cents lower early in the day. New crop values were off 14 cents today as the old/new soybean was slightly firmer. Soy products were also lower today with soybean meal and oil ending with small losses. Spillover pressure from a sharply lower energy market was seen today as Covid concerns in China has the energy sector retreating. NOPA released their Feb crush numbers today with just over 165 million bushels crushed last month. This was right at the estimate and up solidly from last year’s number.
