Corn: +5 ½
The corn market traded higher for much of the session today before finishing with a modest gain. The December contract gained over 5 cents on the day and finished at the highest level since mid-August. December futures gained 30 cents on the week and finished October with a monthly gain of over 31 cents. Overall commodity strength has helped the corn market along with technical buying. Corn demand had been a mixed bag with very strong ethanol margins helping to drive things while exports and feed demand feels much more stagnant. Corn harvest was delayed across much of the belt this week but next week the harvest window looks much better.
Soybeans: +2
The soybean market had a quiet session that saw it end with a small gain. November futures finished just 2 cents higher after trading in a range of nearly 15 cents. Nearby soybeans gained15 cents on the week as they followed along with the grain markets, but they finished the month with a loss of over 20 cents. A sharply higher dollar helped to keep today’s soybean market in check as soy products were also quiet. Soybean exports remain very concerning with a poor weekly number this week and only small flash sales seen.
