Corn: -2 ½
The corn market traded both sides of unchanged today before ending with a small loss. December futures finished just over 2 cents lower after trading in a range of nearly 8 cents. Support from other markets was seen today as the soybean market rallied overnight along with early strength in wheat. Yesterday’s progress report showed corn harvest 52% complete, slightly below the expectations, but well ahead of the average pace. Tomorrow will bring the weekly energy report with ethanol production expected to remain strong as margins have been solid.
Soybeans: +6 ½
The soybean market ended with a modest gain after staging a small rally overnight. The November contract gained just over 6 cents after trading 18 cents higher at one point. Despite the higher close today, soybean spreads were weaker on the day. Soy products were the leader of the complex today with meal trading near $10 higher mid-morning. Soybean harvest was estimated at 60% yesterday with the Western belt running ahead of the average.
