Daily Commentary
Thursday October 14th
Corn: +4 ½
The corn market traded both sides of unchanged today before finishing with a modest gain. December futures added just over 4 cents on the day after trading in a range of 8 cents. Buying interest returned after two sharply lower days as it appeared December futures are going to test the $5 level. Today energy report was positive with ethanol production reported up over 5% from last week and over 10% from last year. Despite the increase in production, ethanol stocks fell slightly from last week. Ethanol margins are reported at solid levels with the high energy complex supporting them.
Soybeans: +11
The soybeans market had an erratic session that did see if rally into a solid close. November futures ended the day 11 cents higher after trading both sides of steady early in the session. Soy products were also higher today with both oil and meal ending with modest gains. The USDA did announce a small flash sale of soybeans to an unknown destination this morning with weekly numbers delayed until tomorrow. The South American soybean season is off to a good start with Brazil soybeans 10% planted vs just 3% a year ago.
