Daily Commentary

Corn: +3 ¾
The corn market had a quiet session that saw it trade both sides of unchanged before ending with a modest gain. December futures gained nearly 4 cents today as early weakness seemed to be overcome by outside support. Weekly export numbers were on the low end of estimates at near 15 million bushels. The USDA did announce a small flash sale of corn to Guatemala in the morning release. Corn harvest continues to ramp up, but soybeans are currently taking precedence. Early corn premiums continue to erode but any quick ship opportunities should still be taken advantage of.
Soybeans: +1 ½
Soybeans also traded both sides before a slightly higher close. The November contract added just over a penny today after trading in a 15-cent range. Soybean products were mixed today with soybean oil gaining near 70 points. Weekly soy sales were over 33 million bushels, but the cumulative pace is concerning. Current sales stand 450 million bushels behind the pace of last year with China bookings still lagging. Look for export forecasts to continue to fall is sales don’t pick up dramatically in the coming weeks.
