Daily Commentary
Wednesday September 22nd
Corn: +8 ½
The corn market firmed throughout the session today and finished with a moderate gain. December futures ended over 8 cents higher and finished near the high of the session. Support was seen from higher wheat and oats markets. Another news article suggesting that the EPA will lower biofuel blending requirements was seen today, weighing on the mid-day trade. White house officials commented that nothing was final at this point. Ethanol production was off slightly from last week with stocks showing a small build for the week. Weekly exports will be released tomorrow morning.
Soybeans: +8 ¾
Soybeans also finished the day with a solid gain after trading both sides of unchanged. The November contract was also over 8 cents higher today with support coming from the grain complex. Soy products were also high with soy oil ending over a penny higher. Rumors of Chinese soy purchases continue to circulate but no confirmations of any sizable bookings have been seen. Tomorrow’s weekly export update will include the surprising cancellations from last week. The mid-day EPA story did also set back the soybean market for a bit today.
