Corn: +7 ½
The corn market traded both sides of unchanged today before ending with a moderate gain. December futures finished the day just over 7 cents higher after trading a range of over 25 cents. Today’s September supply and demand update showed changes mostly as expected by the trade. Increases were seen in both acreage and yield but those had been expected. Old crop corn demand fell slightly with new crop showing an increase as supplies were increased. The final numbers showed new crop ending stocks just over 1.4 billion bushels, up over 150 million from last month.
Soybeans: +16
Soybeans also had a wide trading range today before ending solidly higher. The November contract gained 16 cents on the day after trading back to the $13 level during the session. Today’s crop report also helped to turn soybeans higher with no major bearish surprises to the balance sheets. Soy demand saw a small decline on both the old and new crop balance sheets but that was partially offset by a small acreage projection. Like corn, soybean yields were increased slightly taking new soy ending stocks to 185 million bushels, up 30 from a month ago.
