Corn: -1/2
The corn market traded both sides of unchanged through the session before ending with a small loss. The December contract was just fractionally lower on the day after trading in a range of nearly a dime. The corn market continues to deal with a mostly bearish storyline. Exports are feared to suffer with hurricane causing damage. Friday will bring the updated supply and demand report with the trade expecting larger forecasts to both yield and acreage. Corn basis levels remain erratic with old crop values highly variable.
Soybeans: +2 ½
Soybeans traded slightly firmer much of the day and finished with a modest gain. November futures added just over 2 cents on the day after trading over a dime higher briefly. Soybean products were mixed today with meal posting a small gain after making a new recent low. The USDA did announce another routine sale to China in the morning release, but total commitments remain disappointing. Damage from hurricane Ida continues to cause concern as many facilities remains without power. Bean harvest has started in the South but remains behind the average.
