Corn: -11 ½
The corn market was under pressure again today as we started the new marketing year. December futures lost over 11 cents on the day and traded to its lowest level since mid-July. More selling was seen today as weather risk premium seemingly coming back out of the market. Also in the market today was announcement from NASS that they will review acreage and have it ready to update in the September WASDE. This seems to indicate that very little prevent acres. Ethanol production was reported lower again this week and some plants take downtime. Ethanol stocks were also lower on the week.
Soybeans: -14 ¾
Soybeans were also lower again today with values fading after trading slightly higher overnight. The November contract finished nearly 15 cents lower after trading over 20 cents lower at one point. Soybean products were also lower with soybean meal and oil ending with moderate losses. The concern in the soybean market surrounds the damage from Hurrican Ida. Ida appears to have had a bigger impact on the river and infrastructure than hurricane Katrina did.
