Monday August 30th
Corn: -17 ¾ to -11
The corn market was under pressure throughout much of the session after briefly trading higher overnight. The September contract finished nearly 18 cents lower on the day with tomorrow being first notice day on the September. December futures fared slightly better, losing 11 cents today after trading in a range of over 20 cents. Bullish news was limited today with concerns over the damage from hurricane Ida lingering through the trade. Weekly corn export inspections were again disappointing at just 22.1 million bushels. At this point it appears that the USDA will need to lower their corn export estimate when they update their numbers on September 10.
Soybeans: -20
Soybeans also fell under pressure through the day and ending with a moderate loss. November futures finished 20 cents lower and over 30 cents off the early high. Soy products were also lower with both soybean oil and meal ending with solid losses. The USDA did announce another flash sale to China in the morning report, but those are needed to keep on a normal new crop booking pace. Weekly export shipments were above estimates at 13.9 million bushels. Official census data out later this week should help clarify how close the USDA export estimate is.
