Wednesday August 25th
Corn: +6 ¾ to +6 ½
The corn market firmed through the session today after a weaker overnight trade. Both the old and new crop contracts gained 6-7 cents today and finished a dime above the early low. The deferred values led the way higher today with the December ’22 contract gaining over 12 cents. Ethanol production was again reported lower today, falling to a 22-week low. Production levels did fall below last year’s level for the first time in many weeks. Ethanol stocks were also off for the 4th consecutive week. Traders do expect new crop export sales to be between 20-40 million bushels in tomorrow’s report.
Soybeans: +1
Soybeans traded both sides of unchanged throughout the day before closing with a small gain. The November contract finished just a penny higher after trading in a range of over 17 cents. Soybean products were mixed on the day with soybean oil ending with a solid gain. No export sales announcements were seen this morning even though rumors continue to circulate of Chinese new crop interest. Recent rains across much of the Western belt have been beneficial for late season development. Tomorrow’s weekly export report should show solid new crop numbers after recent round of announcements.
