Wednesday July 28th
Corn: +1/2 to +2 ¾
The corn market traded both sides of unchanged today before finishing with small gains. Nearby corn ended just fractionally higher after trading in a dime’s range through the session. New crop values continue to lead the corn market, gaining nearly 3 cents on the day. News was quiet today with the temperatures still expected to moderate after this week’s extreme heat. Today’s energy report was mostly as expected by the trade with ethanol production down slightly from last week. Production continues to run at the level needed to meet the demand estimate and just slightly below the 2019 level. Ethanol stocks did show a build on the week and are at the highest levels since mid-February.
Soybeans: +1 ½
Soybeans also finished with a small gain after a two-sided trade. November futures added just over a penny on the day in what was a quiet and low volume trading session. Soy products were again mixed today with soybean oil turning higher today. Soybean export interest remains soft with Chinese crush margins currently in the red. Weekly export sales will be out tomorrow with very minimal old sales expected. New crop sales are also expected to be less than 15 million bushels.
