Monday July 26th
Corn: +2 ½ to +3 ¾
The corn market traded both sides of unchanged today before ending with a small gain. September futures gained just over 2 cents on the day but finished 13 cents above the morning low. The December contract added nearly 4 cents on the day while finishing very near the high of the session. Mid-day weather updates do continue to show a cool down after this week’s extreme heat, but rains chances were lessened across Iowa. This morning’s export inspection report showed corn loadings of nearly 41 million bushels. This was within expectations but below the nearly 54 million/week level that is needed to meet the USDA’s goal. The late afternoon conditions report did show the corn rating drop by 1 point.
Soybeans: +6
Soybeans also finished well above the early lows on a mid-morning rally. November futures gained 6 cents on the day after trading in a range of nearly 30 cents. Soybean products did also finish higher today with soybean oil posting a moderate gain. Rumors of a new crop Chinese soybean meal purchase helped to rally soybeans mid-morning. Soybean export loadings were reported at nearly 9 million this morning. This was within estimates but up nicely from last week. Soybean conditions ratings also fell in today’s update, losing 2 points on the week.
