Corn: -4 to -2 ½
The corn market had a quiet session that saw it end with small losses. September corn lost 4 cents on the day after trading in a range of just over a dime. The December contract was off just over 2 cents on some light fund selling. Nice rains fell across much of Iowa yesterday, but weather forecasts do turn warmer and drier over the next 10 days. Weekly export sales were within expectations at a light 5.5 million bushels. Both the old and new crop bookings were well below the levels of a year ago. Corn basis was mixed on the day with gulf values weaker while some interior processors have shown more interest in nearby corn this week.
Soybeans: -5 ½ to -3 ¼
Soybeans also spent much of the day near steady before ending with a modest loss. Nearby futures lost just over a nickel today with new crop values off just over 3 cents. Old crop soybean bids have begun to be bid off the November contract with most processors rolling their bids this week. Soybean products were mixed today with soybean oil again having a solid session. Soybean export sales were very light at less than 1 million bushels, but that is typical for this time of year. NOPA released their June crush numbers today at a disappointing 152 million bushels. This was well below estimates and off nearly 15 million bushels from last year.
