Tuesday July 13th
Corn: +6 to +7 ¾
The corn market traded higher throughout the day after a lower overnight trade. September futures finished the day 6 cents higher at trading in a range of nearly 20 cents. The December contract gained nearly 8 cents after trading 14 cents higher mid-day. Corn was lower overnight on the slight improvement in yesterday’s ratings, as the corn G/E rating was up 1% to 65%. Weather remains a concern with some heat returning to the Western belt in the 10-day window. Weekly ethanol numbers will be out tomorrow with production likely to be lower as margins have suffered lately.
Soybeans: +10 ½ to +1 ½
Soybeans were higher through the session but did fade into the close. Nearby soybeans gained just over a dime on the day after trading over 20 cents higher during the session. New crop values gained just over a penny as soybean spreads were again firmer. Soybean products were again mixed with soybean oil leading the way. Soybean basis has been firming recently helping to bring spreads with it. Soybean ratings were steady in yesterday’s update with Iowa’s ratings up 6 points.
