Thursday July 8th
Corn: -6 to -7 ¼
The corn market finished with a modest loss today after trading both sides of unchanged throughout the day. September futures ended the day 6 cents lower and 13 cents below the mid-day high. The December contract was off just over 7 cents after trading in a range of nearly 20 cents. The weekly energy report was supportive today with ethanol production reported up slightly on the week. Production was at a 70-week high and above the 2019 levels. Despite the increase in production, stocks did dip lower on an uptick in gasoline demand.
Soybeans: -1 ½ to -7 ¾
Soybeans also traded both sides of unchanged throughout the session before closing with a small loss. Nearby soybeans lost just over a penny after trading a 30-cent range. New crop values were off nearly 8 cents as soybean spreads were firmer on the day. News was limited today with the weekly export sales report pushed to Friday due the holiday. Estimates for next week’s supply and demand update have begun to be released with traders expecting only slight changes following the stocks and acreage update late last month.
