Corn: -9 ¾ to -9 ¼
The corn market traded both sides of unchanged through the session before ending with a moderate loss. Both the September and December contracts lost over 9 cents on the day will ending near 20 cents from the session’s high. The corn market had an overall strong week with values gaining over 60 cents. The USDA surprised the market this week, finding fewer acres than the trade had anticipated. The market will watch weather forecasts closely in the coming weeks as corn is nearing pollination. Corn did suffer some bearish news late in the week as China is expecting to import less corn next year along with a court ruling against selling E15 in the summer months.
Soybeans: +3 ½
Soybeans finished with a small gain after also trading both sides of unchanged. Both the old and new crop values gained just over 3 cents on the day after trading ranges of over 30 cents. Weekly gains were near 1.30 with gains near $1 on Wednesday. The USDA left soybean acreage unchanged in the planted acres update, giving very little margin for a yield shortfall. Markets will be closed Monday for the holiday and will re-open at 8:30 AM Tuesday.
