Daily Commentary

Corn: -18 ¼ to -18
The corn market fell under moderate pressure today with values falling through the day. Both the September and December contracts lost near18 cents on the day and finished near the low of the day. The July contract ended near steady as most old bids rolled to the September contract. Fund selling pressure was seen on a favorable weather forecast. Short term weather models show good chances for precip across Iowa in the coming days with the Dakotas mainly missing out. Long range forecasts do show a return of the heat in the North. Corn basis levels retreated in the interior today as many bids broke on the roll to the September.
Soybeans: -18 ¼ to -17
Soybeans also ended with moderate losses after trading higher early in the session. Nearby soybeans finished just over 18 cents lower after trading in a 30-cent range. New crop values were nearly as much as the old/new spread relaxed slightly today. Soybean products were mixed on the day with soybean oil posting a small gain. There were more rumors of China booking new crop beans today but that seemed to have little effect on the trade. Volume was light with traders eyeing the June 30th stocks and acreage report for more direction.
