Corn: -40
The corn market fell throughout the session today ending at the 40-cent limit lower. Nearby futures through the July ’22 contract were all at the limit lower, moving tomorrow’s corn limit to 60 cents. Early pressure came from a few surprise showers in the North corn belt along with a very poor export sales report. Weekly corn sales were reported at less than 1 million bushels. Fund liquidation was prevalent, estimated at over 30,000 contracts. Concerns over renewable fuel mandates continue with talk that relief efforts to the ethanol industry could mean sizable cuts to ethanol production in the coming months.
Soybeans: -118 ¾ to -90 ½
The soybean market was also under heavy pressure today and ended sharply lower. July futures lost nearly 1.19 today as limits were expanded due to yesterday’s limit lower move in soybean oil. The November contract was off over 90 cents and has lost over $2 in the last 10 days. Soybean products were again lower with soybean oil posting an expanded limit lower close. The better weather outlook and the general commodity sell off helped to contribute to today’s bloodbath. Soybean and soy products will remain at the expanded limits tomorrow with the soybean limit at $1.50.
