Daily Commentary
Friday April 30th
Corn: +25 to +17 ½
The corn market rallied throughout the session before ending with sharp gains. July futures finished at the 25-cent limit higher with the May contract in delivery it had no limit and added 38 cents today. The July contract gained 40 cents on the week after starting and finishing the week with limit moves. July futures finished the month of April with an over $1.25 gain. December futures gained over 17 cents on the day but finished the week with just a 13-cent gain. The expected strong export demand for the balance of the year along with ongoing concern with the Brazilian safrinha crop were the same stories today. Monday will bring a progress report that is expected to show extremely strong weekly gains.
Soybeans: +32 to +21
Soybeans traded lower early in the session before rallying on the heels of the corn market. Nearby soybeans gained over 32 cents on the day while posting an 18-cent weekly gain. New crop values finished over 20 cents higher today but lost a couple cents on the week. Soybean products were also higher today after being lower early in the session. Overnight deliveries of soybeans, meal and soy oil weighed on the complex early in the day along with more talk of importing Brazilian soybeans. Talk of firming cash values helped the soybean complex to recover through the session. The soybean daily limit does move to $1.00 starting Monday.
