Wednesday April 6th
Corn: -1 ¼ to -1 ¾
The corn market traded both sides of unchanged through the session before finishing with a small loss. Both the old and new crop contracts lost 1-2 cents in mostly quiet session. Spillover pressure was seen today from a lower energy market with nearby crude oil off over $5. Today’s energy report was mixed with ethanol production off from last week, but stocks did show a small decline. This was the first time in 5 weeks that ethanol stocks have declined but they do remain very near record levels. Traders are expecting weekly corn exports to be near 30 million bushels in tomorrow’s update.
Soybeans: -10 ½ to -11 ¾
Soybeans spent the day trading lower and finished with modest losses. Nearby soybeans lost just over 10 cents after trading in a range of just over 25 cents. New crop values were off nearly 12 cents on light volume. Soy products were also lower on the day with both meal and oil ending with small losses. The USDA did announce a flash sale of old crop soybeans to China in the morning release, but the market took that in stride. Some profit taking was also seen today with both the USDA and Conab releasing reports later this week.
