Corn: +3 ¼ to -1/2
The corn market traded both sides of unchanged today before finishing mixed. Nearby values gained over 3 cents while finishing over a dime above the early low. The December contract ended the day just fractionally lower after trading within a nickel’s range. Early weakness was tied to better weather in South America with pressure spilling over from the soybean market. The wheat market rallied mid-day and helped to pull the nearby corn higher. Weekly corn export inspections at 47.4 were up moderately from last week with the weekly average needing to be near 55 million.
Soybeans: -8 ½ to -9
The soybean market spent the session trading lower before finishing with a moderate loss. Both the old and new crop contracts lost 8-9 cents on the day but did finish well above the early low. Soybean products were mixed on the day with meal under heavy pressure while soybean oil posted a modest gain. A wetter and cooler weather pattern is expected to develop for Southern Brazil and Argentina in the coming days with the trade expecting crop conditions to stabilize. NOPA released their December crush report today and as expected it show huge soy crush. The 186.4 million bushel total was slightly above expectations and a single month record.
