Corn: Mixed
The corn market traded lower for much of the session before firming late and ending mixed. Nearby values were off fractionally at the close with deferred values up slightly. The March contract did trade nearly 9 cents lower at one point. This morning’s export inspection report showed corn loadings of nearly 30 million bushels. This was within expectations but below the levels of both last week and last year. Marketing year to date shipments are off nearly 70 million bushels from last year. The USDA will release their update supply and demand estimate on Thursday with the trade expecting only small changes.
Soybeans: -5 ¾
Soybeans were also lower for much of the session after opening higher last night. January futures finished nearly 6 cents lower after trading in a range of 20 cents. Soy products were again mixed with soybean oil closing over 60 points higher. The USDA did announce a flash sale to China again this morning, but the bushels were of any consequence. Weekly export loading were shown at 82.6 million bushels. This was again below last year with the shipment pace now lagging last year by nearly 250 million bushels. The trade does expect a small uptick in soybean ending stocks in Thursday’s update.
