Corn: +5 ¼
The corn market had another solid day with values trading much of the session before ending with a modest gain. The March contract gained just over 5 cents on the day after trading in a range of 12 cents. Support was seen from sharply higher wheat and soybean markets along with general commodity strength. This morning’s weekly export report showed corn sales of just over 40 million bushels. This was mostly as expected with year-to-date sales running near the pace that the USDA is currently forecasting. Weather across much of the corn belt remains favorable through the week for to finish fall work.
Soybeans: +16
Soybeans also had a strong day with values firming after the morning break and ending moderately higher. January futures finished 16 cents higher, ending 30 cents above Tuesday’s low. Soybean products were mixed today with oil gaining over a penny with meal just slightly lower. The monthly crush report showed soy crush at near record levels, but soy oil stocks were also well above expectations. Weekly soybean exports on the lower end of estimates at 39.1 million bushels. Year to date sales continue to be concerning with the US export window shrinking by the day.
